Carer training

Find a local carer support group

The Carer Training Programme is a training and information service specifically for family carers of people with dementia. It is based on research suggesting that information and skills training can be as helpful in reducing carer stress as counselling and support groups.

The training is designed in complete consultation with the carers who will be attending, ensuring that the information provided is appropriate to their needs.

The programme covers the whole of Scotland and provides a consultative and training service to all of Alzheimer Scotland's services but also to local authorities, health boards and trusts, private and voluntary organisations on request.

Courses are based firmly on the principle that family carers already have a wealth of expertise about dementia care - these carers enable that expertise to be recognised and shared with other carers in a supportive environment.

The carer services programme also provides training for staff working with people with dementia and their carers on designing and delivering courses for carers and working with and involving family carers.
