Are you helping to look after, or have you helped to look after, someone with dementia in the NHS Highland area? Could you spare us some time to share your experience?

By listening to your experience we aim to improve resources and responses to other carers in the future.

The aim of this project is to enhance support and information provision for carers.

A dementia specific resource guide will be produced to help carers by making it easier for them to find sources of help and support, and develop their own skills and knowledge.

The work will also culminate in a report highlighting the main issues and barriers carers face and key recommendations as to how to reduce such barriers and thereby increase the range and quality of support.

What’s involved

You can choose how you would like to be involved. This can be through interviews or questionnaires.

We would like to speak with you about your experiences of caring including the following:

  • Your experience of the diagnosis process
  • What support was offered (and when) and how useful this was
  • Any difficulties and barriers you have experienced in accessing support
  • What could have improved your situation?

Why get involved

Your experience is highly valuable information which will be used to produce a Carer Resource Guide specifically relating to dementia. It will cover issues such as:

  • information about sources of support available in your area
  • entitlements
  • social care
  • money and legal matters.

Your input will also contribute to producing a report. This will highlight the main issues for people who are helping to look after someone with dementia. It will also provide recommendations on how to improve support to carers.

Your participation in the project would be voluntary and you can withdraw at any time.

Confidentiality

  • All information will be treated in confidence, and be anonymous
  • All information gathered will be securely stored and will be destroyed on completion of the project
