Dementia Awareness Week Conference 2010 - Presentations
Scotland's Dementia Strategy – Making it Work for People
June 2010Alzheimer Scotland's 'Dementia Strategy' conference proved to be a great success. Attended by around 400 delegates this timely event focused on the Scottish Government's National Dementia Strategy with a keynote address from Shona Robison, Minister for Public Health and Sport.
The event provided the first opportunity to hear about the recommendations in detail and what they mean for people with dementia, their carers, local communities and all those with responsibility for implementation.
The aims for the strategy are to develop actions and policies that respect and promote the rights and dignity of people with dementia by improving:
- early diagnosis and response to dementia, including post-diagnostic support and information for carers
- quality of care, treatment and support, wherever this provided
- training and knowledge of the workforce, including those in general health and social care settings such as A & E and GP surgeries
- arrangements and resources which need to be in place to ensure effective delivery of the changes that are proposed.
- public understanding of dementia, including preventative measures; and to reduce stigma.
