An information day for people with dementia, their carers and families

About the Money and Legal Matters information day

Alzheimer Scotland's Money and Legal Matters information day is your chance to hear from experts about a range of issues such as:

  • how people with dementia can be involved in planning their own care and support
  • how they can make their wishes known when planning for the future
  • the social security benefits and other kinds of financial help available to people with dementia and their carers
  • paying for care at home or in a care home
  • rights to community care services
  • power of attorney
  • guardianship and intervention orders
  • adult support and protection
  • and much more.

Booking

Your registration fee of £5 is for the whole day or any part of it, and you can come and go as you choose. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Please note: closing date for bookings - 10 February 2010

You will have the opportunity to meet and get to know many other people who have similar experiences to you. Throughout the day, Alzheimer Scotland staff and volunteers will be on hand to provide one-to-one information and support. There will also be information stands provided by various organisations with a wide range of useful money and legal information. Staff on the stands will be happy to have a chat with you about the information they have.

Workshops

The programme is designed as a series of six workshops. Workshops 1 to 4 will be run in the morning and again in the afternoon, with workshop 5 only taking place in the morning and workshop 6 only taking place in the afternoon, to give you the chance to attend the two workshops you think will be most useful to you. Because of space some Workshops will be limited to around 15 people so book early to ensure that you get to the workshops you want.

Surgeries with a solicitor/benefits adviser

Ask at registration if you want to arrange a chat with one of the solicitors or benefits advisers during the day. We cannot guarantee a private surgery for everyone who wants one but the surgeries will run throughout the day to give as many people as possible the chance to have an appointment.
