Alzheimer Scotland welcomes new major funding initiative from BIG Lottery

Alzheimer Scotland welcomes today’s announcement by the BIG Lottery of a new £50 million National Lottery investment in Scotland, aimed at transforming the life chances of young people leaving care and fundamentally improving the lives of older people with dementia and their carers.

Alzheimer Scotland response:

This is absolutely wonderful news. It clearly shows BIG Lottery Scotland’s commitment to people with dementia and those who care for them. There are around 73,000 people in Scotland with dementia and countless family and friends providing unpaid help and support. We believe that no-one should have to go through dementia on their own. Investment such as this will go a long way towards making life better for everyone affected by the illness.

- Henry Simmons, Chief Executive, Alzheimer Scotland

On Friday 5 March at 11.30am, a brand new Dementia Resource Centre will open in East Clyde Street, Helensburgh to support people with dementia, their carers, families and friends. The launch will be attended by local MSP Jackie Baillie, Provost William Petrie OBE and Henry Simmons, Chief Executive of Alzheimer Scotland. The Centre has been made possible thanks to a grant of almost £10,000 from BIG Lottery’s Awards for All scheme, successfully applied for by the Helensburgh Branch of Alzheimer Scotland.
