Seize the Day! project wins BBC Primetime in the North East

If you were watching Primetime on Monday night, then you’ll already know the great news. If you didn’t see it – we won! Our Aberdeenshire-based project, Seize the Day!, managed to secure £473,000 in last week’s public vote. This money will ensure the project’s aim to support people recently diagnosed with dementia, their carers and families over the next five years. Congratulations to all the staff and volunteers involved, as well as heartfelt thanks to the people with dementia and their carers who participated so enthusiastically in the filming of the programme.
Seize the Day! will improve people’s abilities to plan for their future and be more in control of the choices and decisions to be made throughout the course of their lives. Managing memory problems, maintaining independence and preserving mental capacity will be addressed, while mental and physical wellbeing, confidence and self esteem, and feelings of isolation will be improved.
The project will offer training, education and group peer support: helping people to stay involved in their communities, as well as raising community awareness to help to improve the day-to-day experiences of people with dementia.
Primetime is BBC Scotland and the Big Lottery Fund's exciting new initiative aimed at improving lives for Scotland’s over 50s. You can watch Primetime on BBC TWO Scotland on Mondays at 8pm.
