  • Our Service Manager and Carer Liaison Assistant provide information, advice and support to people with dementia and their carers either by telephone, letter, or in person. They will visit carers in their own homes. They can give practical advice or guidance, assist with seeking more help or just be someone to talk to.
  • We have leaflets, books, booklets, tapes, videos, reminiscence materials and carers aids for distribution or loan to carers. We produce a three-monthly newsletter, entitled Dementia in the Highlands, for carers of people with dementia.
  • Carer Support groups in Easter and Wester Ross, East Sutherland, Lochaber, Nairn and Badenoch & Strathspey.
  • Carer education programmes are organised at venues convenient to carers.
  • Dementia training courses are available to anyone who comes into contact with members of the public, eg nurses, care attendants and social services staff.

Carer Support Groups in Highlands

CARERS NEED TIME OUT..

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO MEET OTHER CARERS WHO UNDERSTAND THIS…….READ ON!

Carers Groups exist for …..CARERS

Anyone who has a friend or relative who has memory problems or any illness causing dementia will be welcome.

The groups exist because Carers sometimes need:

  • Company
  • To meet with people who understand their situation
  • Time out from the caring role
  • Information about services
  • Advice and support
  • To make their needs known to service providers
  • TO HAVE FUN
  • The groups’ main purpose is to provide times when carers can get together to offer mutual support and friendship. However, activities range from a cuppa and a blether, guest speakers and outings through to commenting on current issues affecting carers……………

There are currently Dementia Carers’ Support Groups for:

  • Caithness, currently meeting in Thurso
  • East Sutherland currently meeting in Golspie or Lairg
  • Ross-shire: Beauly, Dingwall and Tain and Strathcarron.
  • Inverness-shire meeting in Inverness
  • Lochaber meeting in Fort William
  • Badenoch & Strathspey meeting in Aviemore or Grantown
  • Nairn meeting in Nairnshire

Respite care and transport can be available.

If you would like, someone will take you along to your first meeting. ALL the groups would welcome new members - please come and join us.
