Through our eyes, a life with dementia - DVD
‘Through our eyes’ is the third DVD produced by the Scottish Dementia Working Group. It features seven members of the SDWG and lets viewers see what it's like to live life with dementia from the perspective of people with dementia.
It is intended primarily for use as a training and awareness-raising tool for professionals at all levels within the health and social care sectors working in dementia care, but it can be used effectively in awareness-raising with all allied health professionals and the general public.
It can also be used with people recently diagnosed with dementia to help them realise that they are not alone and the importance of keeping as involved and as active as possible. Members are frank about their feelings at diagnosis which may also resonate with others newly diagnosed.
All profits from DVD sales go to Scottish Dementia Working Group campaigns to improve services for people with dementia and to improve attitudes towards people with dementia.
Let's get personal - personalisation and dementia
Our research demonstrates that, when empowered to direct their own support, families effectively combine state resources around their own natural supports – creating truly personalised support. However, at present very few people have genuine choice and control over the support they receive.
This report identifies the barrier that limit its wider implementation and provides key recommendations that will enable the majority of people with dementia and their carers to personalise their care and support so that it is meaningful to their lives.
