It is with great sadness that we write this tribute to our former colleague Marcia Ramsay who recently passed away.

Marcia joined Alzheimer Scotland in 2015 as Director of Operations. She brought with her many years of practice and public service experience including managing many high quality care services, Advocacy Projects and working with the Care Inspectorate.  She was well known for being a strong defender of people’s rights, a passionate campaigner and champion. She genuinely cared about helping the people she was supporting, as well as every colleague and volunteer providing that support.

Marcia brought invaluable experience, skills and knowledge with her when she came to Alzheimer Scotland and she quickly became a key leader and member of the senior team. Her strategic insight was pivotal in the reshaping of the localities, and in the creation of Caledonia Social Care. She had a significant influence in developing the culture, values and strategic direction of Alzheimer Scotland and she worked closely with many senior colleagues, who quickly also became her friend.

Marcia Ramsay

She was a well-liked, valued and highly respected member of the Alzheimer Scotland family. Her colleagues have described Marcia as ‘caring’, ‘supportive’ and an ‘inspiration’. She always made time to have a friendly word with everyone in our offices, dementia resource centres and support settings regardless of their role, and it is this warmth and kindness that Marcia will be remembered for the most.

The thoughts of the Alzheimer Scotland staff team sum up perfectly why everyone who knew Marcia will miss her greatly. Their collective memories of her kindness, patience and compassion will be her enduring legacy.

We would like to send our condolences to Marcia’s family and friends at this sad time.
