Memory Walk supporter Iain gets his miles in ahead of Big Weekend

Iain McMillan has completed his Memory Walk around Strathclyde Park with his family dog Roxy. Iain walked in memory of family members who lived with dementia, and for his brother in law John, who is living with vascular dementia.

A previous employee for South Lanarkshire Council, Iain worked as a day care worker for 7 years and knows many people who have benefited from Alzheimer Scotland’s services and support.

Iain told us “I know what dementia does first-hand to families not just people who have a diagnosis”.

Alongside supporting Alzheimer Scotland through his fundraising, Iain volunteers with the Sporting Memories Network. The club is open for people over 50 including people with dementia, who enjoy talking about and remembering sport in East Kilbridge. The group is run by The Sporting Memories Foundation Scotland.

Throughout lockdown, Alzheimer Scotland have been working hard to move many of our groups, activities and carer support online. These groups are often a lifeline for people with dementia, their carers and families. It's only with support that Alzheimer Scotland can continue, and like many charities, is heavily reliant on fundraised income. Through our dedicated fundraisers and donors we are able to deliver an extensive range of innovative and personalised support services across the country in the heart of local communities.

Iain is keen to spread the message for others to take part in their own Memory Walk and his message is a simple one, “just do it, you will definitely help someone!”.

Huge thanks to Iain (and Roxy) for doing your walk, your way and supporting Alzheimer Scotland.

Don’t worry if you cannot walk with us on the big weekend of 19-20 September, this is your walk, your way so remember to still sign up and let us know when you will walk.
