Your is brain amazing (it just corrected the top line). Let's keep it that way

Your brain is who you are. It is your thoughts and feelings, your knowledge and memories. It is curious and creative, and it needs to be protected.

If we eat, exercise and sleep well we can help keep our brains healthy and fuelled with oxygen and nutrients. No matter our age, we need to stimulate our brains by being with people and learning new skills. And it is crucial we manage stress to stay as calm as possible at home and work.

In fact, we now know up to 40% of dementia cases could be prevented by modifying our lifestyle. By empowering Scotland to look after its brain health, we could significantly reduce the estimated 20,000 new cases being diagnosed each year.

But there are many things we can’t change that increase our risk of developing dementia, like age and genetics. Recent research on air pollution suggests that even where we live impacts our brain health.

There is still a lot we don’t know about the brain and why dementias develop. That’s why investing in dementia research is so crucial. Only through research can we find out more about the diseases that lead to dementia and, ultimately, can we find a cure.

At Alzheimer Scotland, through our initiative Brain Health Scotland, has made it our mission to inspire and empower you to protect your brain health. Get started by taking a quick quiz to identify areas to take action and pledge to make one small change today.
