Martin Compston, star of the BBC drama Line of Duty, has stepped out to throw his support behind the launch of Alzheimer Scotland’s Memory Walk campaign today (Thursday 3 May), to urge people to get outdoors and make their mark for dementia, at the walk series, taking place across Scotland this September.
Every year, thousands of fantastic supporters sign up to their local Alzheimer Scotland Memory Walk, helping to raise vital funds to support people with dementia and those who care for them. Taking take place at 15 scenic locations across Scotland the Memory Walk offers communities the chance to walk together with family and friends living with dementia.
Talking about his own experiences of dementia, a cause which is close to his heart, Martin Compston, said: “Members of my own family have been diagnosed with dementia, so I have seen first-hand the devastating effects the illness can have on the whole family but also the strength families can gain.
“We can all do something positive to help those living with dementia by coming together at Alzheimer Scotland Memory Walks this September. I’m proud to support the charity, not only because this is an illness which is close to my heart, but for the support Alzheimer Scotland provides every day across communities.
“Taking part in a Memory Walk is a great excuse to get the whole family together to celebrate someone special and it helps to raise money for such an important cause, so let’s get walking!”
Whether you stride, stroll or toddle, the Memory Walk is perfect for all ages and abilities with various lengths of routes across city parks and country walkways. Our routes are wheelchair, buggy and dog-friendly, so there’s no reason why the entire family can’t make the event the perfect day as well as enjoying the outdoors.
