The winners of Scotland’s Dementia Awards 2018 have been revealed to mark World Alzheimer’s Day, following a ceremony held at the Glasgow Marriott Hotel.
Scotland’s Dementia Awards showcase the creativity, innovation and dedication that make a real difference to the daily lives of people with dementia and their families across Scotland when organisations, groups and teams work together.
Scotland’s Dementia Awards, a partnership between Alzheimer Scotland, NHS Education for Scotland and the Scottish Social Services Council, sets out to celebrate the inspirational achievements of those making a difference to the lives of people living with dementia and their families.
The Awards feature the following five categories: Dementia Friendly Community Initiative, Community Support Initiative, Educational Initiative, Hospital Care Initiative and Most Innovative Partnership.
The winners of the 2018 Scotland’s Dementia Awards, are:
A special Lifetime Achievement Award was presented on the day to Hugh Masters. The former Associate Chief Nursing Officer to the Scottish Government received recognition for his outstanding contribution and dedication to educate and promote dementia care and support across acute general and specialist dementia care hospitals.
Henry Simmons, Alzheimer Scotland’s Chief Executive, said on behalf of the partners: “It is a fitting tribute that we are celebrating the wonderful contribution that individuals and teams have made across the dementia care sector in Scotland to mark World Alzheimer’s Day.
“We have been thrilled to celebrate the work of so many innovative and dedicated individuals alongside the hugely impressive positive collaborations that are taking place. Their combined efforts are helping to dramatically improve services, address stigma, break down barriers and ensure that nobody faces dementia alone. This year’s winners have set a new precedent and we are delighted to see everyone congratulated for their efforts to support people living with dementia and their families.
“We would like to thank everyone who played their part in this year’s awards and who continue to make the programme a resounding success.”
Rigorously judged by a panel of leading social care, third sector and health professionals alongside people with dementia and carers, the Awards (now in their 7th year) showcase creative approaches and collaboration, innovation and best practice in all aspects of dementia information, advice and care.
