What we offer

Groups & Activities at Kilmarnock Dementia Resource Centre and East Ayrshire

Activities in East Ayrshire

Friday Blether & Bite – DRC – weekly on Fridays, noon-2pm

Helen’s soup is justifiably famous in these parts and Irma, Bea and the girls will ensure that you are well fed and watered every week – plenty seating for all the family to join you

Musical Minds –Kay Park Church, London Road, Kilmarnock – weekly on Wednesdays, 1.30pm-3.30pm

Now famous, with its own choir that are in high demand, the original Musical Minds is still as popular as ever, drawing big crowds without losing its friendly atmosphere.  Tea and biscuits is followed by Eddie and Andy, with occasional guest musicians to keep the boys on their toes.

Young at HeART – DRC – weekly on Thursdays, 10am-noon

Linda and Victoria set up easels, clean the brushes, sharpen the pencils and create the perfect environment for your creative talents to come through – watercolours, still life and even some decoupage have been produced.  While talent is optional, enthusiasm is essential!

Football Memories – Rugby Park, Kilmarnock – monthly on the first Monday, 3pm-4.30pm

Kilmarnock Football Club host a lively and banter-filled afternoon of football reminiscing and unfavourable comparisons with ‘today’s crop of prima donnas’.  Football cards from yesteryear are all the prompts required here, although the Killie Pie at half time is a fair draw in itself

Galston Friendship Club – Hogg Hall, Galston – monthly on the 3rd Thursday, 2pm-4pm

A great selection of local musicians are complemented by a warm welcome and trestle tables bursting with all manner of sweet treats – our Dementia Advisor is on hand to answer any queries that you might have about dementia and how it is affecting you.

Tea Dance, Stewarton – St Columba’s Church Hall, Stewarton – monthly on the last Friday, 2pm-3.30pm

Join us for tea, coffee, home baking, great entertainment, friendship, support and a very warm welcome.

Dog Days – DRC – monthly on the last Thursday, 1.30pm-3.30pm

Proving that 4 legs are better than 2, our dog days are fun, educational, and most importantly, therapeutic.  There are pooches on hand to adore and pet, but we also have ‘star dog’ attractions from Medical Detection Dogs to Police Dogs and, of course, our Dementia Dogs.  This gets busy, (and noisy) so please call for availability.

Girls Gathering - DRC - Weekly on a Tuesday, 2pm-3.30pm

A lively group of ladies who enjoy a good blether and a cup of tea!  A chance to meet new friends, do a bit of knitting or just have a chat.

Men’s Group – DRC - Weekly on a Tuesday, 2pm-3.30pm

Sometimes, men just need to be men – we have a lively group that sets the world to rights every fortnight, covering politics, football, and where you can get the best pint!!  We avoid religion (strayed into that territory once, never again) but all else is fair game.  Limited spaces in this group so please call for details.
