The Shetland Dementia Resource Centre is for people living with dementia their partners, families and friends and anyone who is seeking information or advice
We advertise at the beginning of the month events for the month in the local paper and Radio Shetland will inform the public ‘What’s On’ on their regular evening spot.
We offer a range of supports and activities for people with dementia, their partners, families and friends to help maintain abilities, social activities, relationships and community connections.
Memory Lane Cafe in Lerwick offers an opportunity to meet with the Dementia Advisor, Dementia Nurse Consultant and Lead Nurse, Dementia Services in an informal relaxed atmosphere. This café is held in the Baptist Church Hall, Quoys, Lerwick, fortnightly Thursday mornings from 10.00-12.00hours
Memory Lane cafes are also held 2nd Monday of each month in the Moorfield Hotel, Brae
3rd Friday each month Overtonlea Daycare Unit, Levenwick
Last Friday each month Alzheimer Scotland is a guest of the Café in the Church, Walls.
In collaboration with the Museum and Archives we have a monthly reminiscence session in the Learning Room of the Museum, this is held on the afternoon of the 3rd Wednesday of the month.
Also, ‘When I Paint I Remember’ is a monthly art session which not only covers painting and drawing but also art work linking with the museum and its exhibitions. This is held on the first Friday of the month in the afternoon.
We hold a Tea Dance on the first Tuesday of the month in the Baila Room, Sound Hall, Lerwick. Accordion Dance Band plays old favourites.
Positive Dementia Group is for people living with dementia to come together and share experiences “through their eyes” in a safe, relaxed and supportive environment. This is held in the Lerwick Hotel on the last Monday of the month.
Carers’ support Group is for partners of people living with dementia and offers peer support as well as information and advice from our Dementia Advisor. This group meets at the same time as the Positive Dementia Group in the Lerwick Hotel.
A monthly Sons and Daughters Group meets in the evening and offers peer support for people caring for a parent/parent-in-law with dementia.
