Support group volunteers

Alzheimer Scotland’s support groups enable people living with dementia and/or carers to openly discuss and share their thoughts, views and concerns in confidence in a safe, supportive environment.   

This role will help to facilitate support groups for people living with dementia and/or carers in local Dementia Resource Centres or external community settings. This role may include actively listening to and communicating with people living with dementia and/or carers attending the support group and providing people attending with up to date information and signposting onto others who can help.

What skills are required for this role?

It is essential that you have excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills.

People attending groups such as these may at times require some emotional support have knowledge, so you must be emotionally resilient and understanding of how dementia can affect both people living with the condition and those who support them.

Volunteers must be willing to commit regular time to this role.

As with all volunteering roles, there will be training where required and ongoing support from our Volunteer team. Full job descriptions will be available upon application.
