The purpose of this role is to support the staff to provide transport for individuals attending meetings/outings
We have activities in several places in the local area and occasional events that people with dementia and their carers like to attend. If you are friendly, reliable, enjoy working with people on a one to one basis and have a full clean driving licence and a car, a voluntary driver opportunity could be a great opportunity for you. If you do not have a driving licence but would like to assist people to and from activities on foot or by public transport, we also have opportunities for this. Dementia awareness training will be provided and Alzheimer Scotland will also provide PVG scheme memberships to successful applicants. We are now accepting applications for this opportunity.
Where/When: Volunteer drivers will be required to assist people travelling to and from nearby towns and areas within South Ayrshire
Restrictions: Volunteers for this role must be over 18 years old and have a full driving licence. This role is subject to a full PVG check by Disclosure Scotland which Alzheimer Scotland will provide.
Skills/Experience: We are looking for applicants who are sensible, friendly, reliable and caring and who enjoy working with people on a one to one basis. It is preferred but not essential to have previous experience working with people with dementia as training will be provided.
Training: Volunteers are expected to complete our ‘Dementia Friends’ training which is a one hour session with our Dementia Advisor for South Ayrshire. Any further training needs will be identified.
Expenses: Weekly, by arrangement.
