In recent days and months, we have witnessed an increase in hard hitting and in the view of many people, stereotypical and frightening images of what living with some form of dementia means, however Alzheimer Scotland does not support this approach.

At a summit held at 10 Downing Street on 20 March, Scott Mitchell, the husband of the late Dame Barbara Windsor was announced as People’s Champion for a national Dementia Mission named in memory of the star. 

As we age, it’s important to know the steps we can take to protect our brain health. We asked members of the Scottish Dementia Working Group what they do to look after their brain health.

Alzheimer Scotland offers a free, confidential, person-centred counselling service which is in high demand. We are looking for qualified counsellors to volunteer to support the delivery of this critical frontline service.

Following Catriona’s diagnosis of dementia and inspired by their mum’s love of the outdoors, in 2021, Caitlin and her sister Sinead and their mum undertook their 100 miles challenge. Following this Caitlin and her mum completed the 90k step challenge! 

Lisa and Kimberleigh completed a fundraising challenge to run 50 miles in one month to raise awareness of dementia and funds for Alzheimer Scotland. 

Huge thanks to everyone who supported our fundraising collections at the Scottish Chamber Orchestra's Viennese New Year concerts in Edinburgh, Perth, Aberdeen and Ayr. Generous concert-goers donated almost £5,000!
