Navigating dementia support: What good practice looks like
About the study day
In dementia support, good intentions alone are no longer enough. This powerful and thought-provoking study day challenges professionals to rethink what ‘good practice’ truly looks like for people living with a dementia. Navigating dementia support: What good practice really looks like explores the real impact of language, culture, environments, communication, and organisational systems on lived experience.
Rooted in evidence-informed, person-led practice, this course moves beyond task-focused care to explore dignity, autonomy, emotional wellbeing, meaningful living, and inclusive support. Through practical discussion, reflective learning, real-world case studies, and contemporary research, participants will leave with the confidence, insight, and tools needed to strengthen practice, challenge outdated approaches, and create more compassionate, enabling, and dementia-inclusive support across health and social care settings.
What you will learn:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe the principles of person-led support and their application in practice.
- Identify indicators of unmet need and outline appropriate responses.
- Use effective communication strategies and inclusive language to promote positive interactions.
- Explain how environmental factors influence wellbeing and identify opportunities to enhance supportive environments.
- Identify approaches that enable and support meaningful living for people with dementia.
