Brain Health and Dementia Risk Reduction in Primary and Community Care
About the study day
This interactive one-day study event is designed for primary and community care health professionals who want to strengthen their knowledge and confidence in promoting brain health and dementia risk reduction in everyday practice. Drawing on the recommendations from the Lancet Commission Report and the work of Brain Health Scotland, the course will explore the 14 modifiable risk factors for dementia and the practical role of primary care in supporting risk reduction, behaviour change, and patient education.
Participants will gain practical skills in initiating brain health conversations, supporting lifestyle behaviour change, and integrating dementia prevention approaches into routine consultations across primary care settings.
What you will learn:

- Describe the current evidence relating to modifiable risk factors for dementia.
- Explain the key findings and recommendations from the Lancet Commission Report on dementia prevention, including the 14 modifiable risk factors associated with dementia risk reduction.
- Discuss the role of Brain Health Scotland in promoting brain health awareness and supporting dementia risk reduction across the population.
- Identify opportunities for integrating brain health conversations and dementia risk reduction strategies into routine primary and community care practice.
- Demonstrate approaches to supporting patients to understand brain health, dementia risk, and the importance of preventative lifestyle behaviours.
- Apply behaviour change principles and communication strategies to encourage patients to adopt healthier lifestyle behaviours associated with improved brain health.
