Footballer Danny McGrain diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease

‘We are sad to hear of Danny McGrain’s diagnosis and our thoughts are with him and his family.

‘Danny is known and loved by many for his hugely successful football career and also for the generosity and warmth he has shown towards fans and charitable causes over the years.

‘By taking the brave step to make his diagnosis public, Danny and his family are helping to raise awareness of dementia as a condition that affects the lives of so many people.

‘There are over 90,000 people living with dementia right now throughout Scotland. Many families will know and understand what Danny and his family are going through and they are not alone.

‘The simple truth is that we must do more to both find a cure and provide the best level of support to people living with dementia. We need to increase investment in research, accelerate and drive forward access to new treatments, and do all that we can to make sure nobody faces dementia alone in Scotland.
