Better Care, Full Stop report

Earlier this year, we conducted a Have Your Say survey through this website. The survey asked for feedback from people with lived experience on the state of dementia care in Scotland. We received 845 responses and they painted a worrying picture. The response from people was clear – the current system is not working, and action needs to be taken. We heard about issues from pre diagnosis through to advanced dementia and end of life care, and that people with dementia, their carers and families are struggling to navigate a broken system that does not adequately meet health and social care needs.

Our survey showed overwhelming support for a clear, national dementia care pathway as outlined in our manifesto: A better future for dementia care in Scotland – the time is now. The manifesto is a call for change and sets out a bold and practical vision for a Scotland where the dementia experience is clear, consistent and compassionate – not fragmented and uncertain. It reflects what people impacted by dementia have told us they need. Ahead of the May Scottish Parliament election, we called on every party and candidate to commit to our Dementia Care Pathway Guarantees and make sure people affected by dementia receive better care.

Published for Dementia Awareness Week, our Better Care, Full Stop report highlights the survey findings. You can read the report here.
