Befriending volunteers
Our befriending volunteers offer social contact, and help people living with dementia to combat loneliness and isolation.
Befrienders provide companionship either in the person’s home, local community, care home or hospital and help people living with dementia to participate in appropriate social and/or recreational activities.
What skills are required for this role?
Befriending volunteers must feel comfortable providing companionship to people with dementia and be willing to identify potential opportunities to reduce any isolation they may be feeling.
Volunteers must display excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be genuinely interested in making a difference to the lives of people with dementia. This role is suitable to people aged 18 and over who can offer around 2 hours of their time per week for a minimum of 6 months.
