Behavioural variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD), formerly known as Pick’s disease, is characterised by changes in personality and behaviour.

Symptoms can include:

  • Reduction in inhibitions causing behaviour like inappropriate comments or impulsive behaviour
  • Compulsive or repetitive behaviours like becoming obsessed with time or rituals
  • Experience cravings for things like sweet foods, cigarettes or fatty foods
  • May become apathetic and lack motivation, but not be depressed
  • A loss in empathy: can appear uncaring, cold or selfish.
