Research

Alzheimer Scotland is committed to areas of research reflecting the continuum of prevention, delay, and support. Alzheimer Scotland supports a wide variety of brain health and dementia research through collaboration, funding, promoting research participation and helping to develop the structures that enable brain health and dementia research to flourish.

Thanks to the latest studies, we know more than ever about dementia and what is most important regarding care, support, and quality of life. We also understand more about what can be done to help prevent dementia, as we work towards our goal of finding a cure.

Finding the cure

There is currently no cure for dementia, but we are seeing more and more developments in the world of dementia research.

From Alzheimer’s disease drug breakthroughs, to using blood-based biomarkers for earlier diagnosis, promising steps forward are being made. For us, research brings hope.

Click the button below to learn more about the research programmes Alzheimer Scotland supports. Alternatively, keep reading this page to find out how you can participate in dementia research or submit a research application request.

Participating in dementia research

Taking part in research is one of the most powerful ways you can help shape the future of dementia care, treatment and prevention. Whether you’re living with dementia, caring for someone who is, or interested in brain health, there are opportunities to get involved.

Research Application Request

The brain health and dementia research landscapes continue to grow, and we welcome opportunities to collaborate and support research to flourish. Please complete this application form for requests for Organisational support (Alzheimer Scotland and/or Brain Health Scotland).

If your request is in relation to lived experience (Active Voice) support, please complete the Active Voice Expression of Interest Form.

For requests related to co-production research, involvement should be sought from the planning stages, we will not be able to support requests for co-production for projects that have already started without clear justification for the timing of the request

Please note, we cannot support the recruitment of people with lived experience of dementia through this request. Participant recruitment is recommended via Join Dementia Research and studies can also be shared via the Scottish Dementia Research Consortium.

We receive a high volume of requests and strive to ensure equity and support of high-quality research aligned to our priorities. Your request will be discussed at the next Alzheimer Scotland Research Steering Group meeting and you will be informed of the decision.
