Prevent
It’s never too early and never too look after your brain health. Estimates show that 45% of dementias are preventable and our aim is to educate people on the risk factors that could lead to dementia.
Preventing dementia
Although there are some risk factors such as age and genetics that are impossible to change, there are now 14 modifiable risk factors for dementia. By making lifestyle changes you could be reducing your risk of developing dementia. A healthy lifestyle can also help prevent conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes, which are known risk factors for dementia.
Alzheimer Scotland launched Brain Health Scotland in 2020 to promote lifelong brain health and create a legacy of long-term dementia prevention strategies. Our Brain Health Scotland team’s mission is to inspire and empower people to protect their brain health and reduce the risk of diseases that lead to dementia. Working with all ages, from young to old, and across the whole of Scotland, we provide information and advice on brain health. It’s never too early or too late to take steps to look after your brain health.
