Worried about dementia?
It is completely understandable that you may be worried about dementia if you have noticed symptoms in yourself or someone you know.
Worried about your memory?
One of the most common and well-known symptoms that people are concerned about is memory loss, although there are many other, lesser-known symptoms of dementia. Also, if your family has a history of dementia, it is natural to feel concerned if symptoms begin to present.
That said, it is worth noting that some cognitive changes are to be expected as we age, like occasional forgetfulness or taking longer to remember names and places. Dementia is different, it is not a natural part of ageing, and it is caused by specific changes to the brain that result in a progressive decline in cognitive and physical ability that affect day-to-day life.
Our resource leaflet, ‘Worried about your memory?’ offers information on the conditions that can lead to memory loss and suggests when it might be appropriate to consult your doctor. It also talks about the steps you can take to continue to live well if you do receive a dementia diagnosis.
